Systems are long-term. Short-term events do not mean anything, they can be one-offs, they do not predict the future. Multiple short-term events together create a system. Look for systems as the way the way to approach all decisions. Ask yourself: Am I looking at the system or the event? If you are event-driven, you will be wrong most of the time. If you are system-driven you will be right most of the time.
