Do the work to understand yourself. Often, reflection and awareness is more work than just continuing down the path. 

If you only look at life (opportunities, challenges, relationships, etc.) through one perspective, that perspective will never be complete, and then long-term, you will always be wrong. 

The best way to overcome short-term failures is to have a focused ultimate purpose built up with long-term goals to help you accomplish that purpose.
